Farewell of the Sophiapolder in four seasons.
The Sophiapolder is a small island in the Noord, a stone’s throw from the town of Dordrecht. For years, my aunt and her children had an old farm on this island. Every morning they would row across the river to take care of the animals. The life of this family on the Sophiapolder fascinated me. When I heard they had to leave the island to make way for newly designed nature, I started photographing life on the farm. Currently the island is a fresh-water tidal marsh; the trees are cut down and the dike will be breached.
This work is published in a book and was on show at CBK Dordrecht (centre for visual arts), Mobex (mobile exhibition space), Noorderlicht (international photofestival) and BredaPhoto (international photofestival).
Part of the show at CBK Dordrecht was a debate about the Dutch environmental management.
