True to tradition Photo-Eye has announced their annual survey of best books as selected by 26 photoworld luminaries.  A Falling Horizon has been included in their selection.

 
Photobook marathon Huis Marseille

Forty eye-catching Dutch publications of the past year.

On Sunday December the 18th, the yearly photobook marathon will take place in Huis Marseille, Amsterdam. During this day, which is dedicated to the photobook, photographers will talk about the process and realisation of their book and project. In the morning, I will be giving a short presentation about A Falling Horizon.

Paris Photo

Publisher Fw:Books will be present during Paris Photo at the photobook fair Offprint Paris from 10 till 13 November 2011. The book A Falling Horizon is available at Offprint at both the Fw:Books stand and at the stand of the Berlin Kominek Gallery. There will be a signing session at the Fw: stand on the 11th of November.

Shortlist Arles Book Award

A Falling Horizon has made it to the shortlist of the Best Contemporary Book Award 2011; an anual award that is part of the festival Recontres d’Arles. Winner of this years competition is ‘A Living Man Declared Dead’ by Taryn Simon. The Historical Book Award was awarded to ‘Works’ by Lewis Baltz.

 
Exhibition and Library: Foxtrot Whiskey

Invited by Bohm/Kobayashi, Fw: is setting up an exhibition in the context of Ant!foto based on the books that they have published up till now. At the Half-sovereign Malkasten they will be showing the work of Jaap Scheeren & Hans Gremmen (Fake Flowers in Full Colour), Jan Adriaans (Garage), Dieuwertje Komen (Commonness), Heidi de Gier (a Falling Horizon), Geraldine Jeanjean (Aumont) and Ringel Goslinga (Family Tree).

The series A Falling Horizon is about the Sophiapolder, an island where Hannie and her children had a sheep farm for years. Every morning they would row across the river to take care of the animals. But now they are forced to leave their home.

Eins, Zwei Orchestra

Rik Dekker has turned the photo I took of shoegaze band Eins, Zwei, Orchestra into a music video by using a lot of analogue videorecorders. This song is inspired by the work and life of Friedensreich Hundertwasser.

 
Other Eyes

10 years of willful Dutch photography.

Volkskrant Magazine now exists ten years and celebrates this with a book: Andere Ogen (Other Eyes). The book is edited by Theo Audenaerd. A photo from the series Farmgirls and one from the series Prominent Profiles have been included in this book.

The exhibition of the same name will be on show in TrouwAmsterdam from November the 13th onwards.

Go Short

Postercampaign for international short film festival.

Next Wednesday GO SHORT, the international short film festival in Nijmegen, will take off. For the poster campaign of this new festival, I have photographed the Dutch actor Waldemar Torenstra. These posters hang throughout the whole city.
